One of the most popular types of cuisines in India is the Punjabi food. Typically, Indian food is healthy and nutritious but Punjabi food is healthy, energetic, and high in fiber and protein. A typical Punjabi meal consists of ?sarson ka saag? and ?makke di roti? along with many other delicious delicacies.
For those who have had the opportunity of tasting sarson ka saag with makke di roti, once is never enough. A culinary delight, sarson ka saag is a simple Punjabi Indian recipe that activates the taste buds while being wholesome and healthy. The saag or the gravy is incomplete without the makke di roti.
Makka or corn/maize flour is used to make these rotis or bread. The roti is served with a dash of ghee to ensure that it doesn?t become dry. Very tasty with a unique flavor, makke di roti can be cooked as explained below:
Ingredients Makki Di Roti
2 cups maize flour
1 fistful plain flour
1 tbsp. Oil
Salt to taste
Cooking Method
1. Mix maize flour, oil and salt as per taste.
2. Knead in to soft and smooth dough by adding small amount of water at a time.
3. Take small sized dough and shape into a ball. Flatten with hand by patting it into thin round shape
4. You can also use rolling pin to flatten the flour ball.
5. Heat a heavy iron girdle and roast roti on it until crisp.
6. Repeat on other side.
7. Repeat from 3 to 5 for all rotis.
8. Cover with napkins to keep warm.
9. Serve hot with ghee or butter.
